As delineated in the clinical practice guideline, clinicians should routinely screen for tobacco use and apply appropriate interventions (Figure 1), addressing five key components for comprehensive tobacco-cessation counseling (the 5 As): (1) asking patients about tobacco use, (2) advising tobacco users to quit, (3) assessing their willingness to make a quit attempt, (4) assisting patients with quitting, and (5) arranging follow-up care (Appendix A)
